Free Knitting Pattern - Scrappy Super Bulky Hat!

Free Knitting Pattern - Scrappy Super Bulky Hat!

Jessica Bodner

Okay knitting friends - who has bins and bins of yarn scraps they need to use up?!

Here's a free scrappy pattern for you guys - and the best part is that it is EASILY customizeable too!

You can either follow the pattern below exactly, or modify it as you please.  If you want to do larger sections of each colour, just follow the alternating rows between the colours, and add some more solid rows of each colour before starting the alternating section to the next colour.  Just knit until your hat is 8.25-8.5" in length (depending on your preferred hat length), and then move on to the decrease section.  You can see that the hats in the photo are both a little different - have fun with the pattern and get creative!

THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP for knitting this hat - when you get to the alternating colour rows, be very careful to knit LOOSELY.  Obviously not sooo loosely that your stitches look sloppy, but if you knit these rows too tightly, they stitches will pucker and not have the same stretch as the rest of the hat.  Also, do your best to pick up your colours the same way through the whole round - one colour on the left and one colour on the right.

Okay, here's the pattern for you guys - I hope you like it!!
